  Simple Japanese braiding techniques are the next step to create custom made jewelry or sewing trims. Everyone is always amazed at how fun this is  (and addicting). The results are amazing, with each piece more special than the last.

NEW! Personal Shrine Jewelry - 3 hrs. - 1 day
   Use your own personal symbology to make custom made pins or pendants that are uniquely yours. What is your symbology? We'll find out while working with a variety of materials such as paper clay, metal tape, papers,  stamps, pencils and paints.  Think of this process as a little collage combined with some personal discovery and brought into being through jewelry construction techniques.

 

Art Related Programs

An Artist in China - Slide/Lecture Presentation  (60-90 minutes)
China is big in the news these days. I was a delegate participating in a professional and cultural exchange primarily for artists and educators by invitation of the Chinese government in Sept. 2005.  This rare opportunity provided valuable glimpses into the arts in China today.  Experience China, Chinese contemporary and traditional arts, daily life and conundrums through the eyes of an observant artist.

Understanding Creativity - available as a 1-3 hr. or 1 day program
Have you ever experienced "empty page/blank canvas syndrome"? Develop strategies  to continue working when experiencing creative block with an experienced coach/instructor.  This is a fun and enlightening class and all you need to be more productive will be to add practice and desire!

 

Bookbinding Programs

Beginning Bookbinding Techniques - one or two day workshop (6-12 hours)
  
Discover the fun of making a book in a day. The 'Perfect Bound' method of bookbinding is quick and simple to learn, no stitching required, and is a great way to include sentimental bits and pieces of papers, poetry and pictures that get collected over time.  Create your own custom made journal, memory album or special gift in this class. 
 

Bookbinding with Polymer Clay - one or two day workshop (6-12 hours)
 
Imagine the possibilities of using polymer clay to make book covers. It’s the newest innovation in book cover decoration this century. Bookbinding is considered an art in itself. Perfect bound books made with polymer clay take this art beyond the usual. Learn tricks and techniques while exploring unique cover decoration and book construction to take home your own original polymer book.

Coptic Bound Books - (3-6 hours)
 
Create a beautiful book in a day with a stitched binding.  The stitched design shows on the spine adding a lovely decorative element to the overall piece.  This is as fun as it is easy to learn. Previous sewing skills really aren't required!

Mixed Media Programs

Altered Book Art Bags - one day or two day workshop (6-12 hours)
  
Carry your art with you wherever you go when you create your own Altered Book Art Bag.  Everyone will want to know where you got your purse when you show your art to the world!
  Make one-of-a-kind works of personal art designing a sturdy and durable Art Bag using an existing book, collaged elements, rubber stamps, glazes, fiber and metal components.

 Altered Books: Each Page a New Technique - (3-6 hours)
   A variety of techniques are covered in this program including gilding paper and metal tapes for metal effects, a number of ways to make image transfers, adding in pages, creating pockets, flaps and folds, adding rivets, eyelets, rubber stamps and lots more.  Click here to see a sample.

Collaging Dolls - one or two day workshop (6-12 hours) This mixed media program explores combining unique design, printing, and painting on cloth, transfers with liquid polymer clay and basic clay techniques along with bead embroidery to create miniature people with extremely large personalities. See amazing creations take place before your eyes.

Meredith's Spontaneous Paste Paper - half to one day workshop (3-6 hours)  Half the fun of this method for creating paste paper is that it is so simple and spontaneous .  The other half is that it isn't as messy as traditional methods and it takes no time at all to create many beautiful sheets of paper.  This is a great technique when a lot of unique papers are needed quickly.

Paper onto Cloth Collage -  (2-6 hours) 
 
This technique is wonderful for creating unique one of a kind fabric for artwork, wearable art,  book covers and more.  Connect with your intuitive process as well as a variety of techniques used to apply paper imagery onto fabric in a simple collage process. The completed fabric can be cut and sewn into whatever you can imagine.

Photo Transfers on Fabric -  One day workshop (4-6 hours)
 
Explore a potpourri of image transfers onto fabric. Each process gives a different result. Layer images for collage effect or use a central focal point for later embellishment. Students will create fabric journal pages using each method as a sample for their future reference.

Printing Imagery on Fabric - one or two day workshop (6-12 hours) 
 
It is now possible to print permanent patterns and images onto fabric from your computer using your home printer.  Imagine creating one of a kind wearable art , specialty quilts or even a tote bag using fabric you designed and created. I have made this a simple process to learn and once you have the information you need, the sky is the limit!

Shimmering Silk Beads - available as a demonstration, half or full day workshop
 
Silk is an amazing fabric and takes mixed media treatments extremely well. Discover a variety of techniques using paints, rubber stamps, beads and wire to make an incredible necklace of your own design or unique beads for special embellishments to clothing, books or more.  Sewing is NOT a requirement.  This is an addictive project that is a lovely way to play with color and simple patterns. Every student will be pleased with their creations, guaranteed.

Shodo: Japanese Brush Meditation - demonstration/one day workshop
  Immediately understand the benefits of the meditation of making marks using graceful Shodo techniques in this introductory program. Shodo centers around the calligraphy of Japanese characters, the beauty in the movement of the brush with the brush, body and mind acting as one.  Learning the beginning techniques teaches profound awareness into how one approaches art, fun and life in a nutshell.  Past students have reported how relaxing this process is and how it has given them the ability to loosen up and work from the inside out freely. This is a great way to move out of a rut and grow into your own and into the moment simply. Previous painting or calligraphy experience is NOT required.

Transfers: Paper, Cloth and  Polymer Clay  - One or two day workshop
 
Freehand transfers allow the creation of images by hand to be transferred to polymer clay, paper, and cloth without the use of special equipment. Drawing abilities are not required! Many special effects can be achieved with this process very simply both on unbaked and baked clay.  This class explores the many amazing effects available using the Freehand Transfer method developed by Meredith, including layers of transfers, watercolor effects, tie-dye, illustrative imagery and embossed transfers.  Exploring these unusual methods in a collaging process to create personal adornment items will open up new horizons and inspirations for everyone!

Fall in love with buttons making these rings using simple wireworking techniques and very few tools.  Adorn yourself and your friends with lovely rings you've made yourself in a very short time. The combinations are so much fun to put together and make such great quick gifts that it's guaranteed you'll never look at buttons quite the same again.

Introduction to Metal Etching Techniques - one day workshop (4-6 hours)
 
Discover metal etching for simply creating beautifully textured components for any project.  Get all of your questions answered on the different etching methods used for different metals while making your own etched copper plates.  Metal etched sheets can be cut, shaped and formed into unique jewelry components or use full size sheets for unique book covers or texture sheets for clay materials.      Polymer clay can be used to make beads, boxes, books and much more. It can be sculpted, molded, carved, sanded or drilled. It can even imitate ivory, jade, agate and other semi-precious materials.  Explore the possibilities of this versatile material while making a variety of items such as your own tools for use with the clay, beads, a box and more.  A variety of techniques are included to help get you started.

Silk Screen on Polymer Clay - 3 hour or 6 hour program (in one block or split into two sessions)
 
Make amazing art jewelry in polymer clay using layers of pattern and colors created from this simplified technique. Silkscreening onto the clay creates exciting new  "polymer textiles". It really looks more complicated than it is which just adds to the magic of creating your own jewelry. This is an incredibly fun technique and provides a lot of material to use for creating your own jewelry or other designs for embellishments and adornments.
