I was a delegate participating in a professional and cultural
exchange primarily for artists and educators by invitation of the Chinese government in Sept.
2005. This rare opportunity provided valuable glimpses into the arts in

daily life and conundrums through the eyes of an observant artist.

gilding paper and metal tapes for metal effects, a number of ways to make image
transfers, adding in pages, creating pockets, flaps and folds, adding rivets,

mixed media program explores combining unique design, printing, and painting on
cloth, transfers with liquid polymer clay and basic clay techniques along with

Meredith's Spontaneous Paste Paper
- half to one day workshop (3-6 hours)
Half the fun of this method
for creating paste paper is that it is so simple and spontaneous . The
other half is that it isn't as messy as traditional methods and it takes no time
at all to create many beautiful sheets of paper. This is a great technique
when a lot of unique papers are needed quickly.

Paper onto Cloth Collage
- (2-6 hours)
This technique is wonderful for
creating unique one of a kind fabric for artwork, wearable art, book
covers and more. Connect with your intuitive process as well as a variety
of techniques used to apply paper imagery onto fabric in a simple collage
process. The completed fabric can be cut and sewn into whatever you can imagine.

Photo Transfers on
Fabric

Explore
a potpourri of image transfers onto fabric. Each process gives a different
result. Layer images for collage effect or use
a central focal point for later embellishment. Students will create fabric

Shimmering Silk Beads

Silk is an amazing fabric and takes
mixed media treatments extremely well. Discover a variety of techniques using
paints, rubber stamps, beads and wire to make an incredible necklace of your own design
or unique beads for special embellishments to clothing, books or more.
Sewing is NOT a requirement. This is an addictive project that is a lovely
way to play with color and simple patterns. Every student will be pleased with

Shodo: Japanese Brush Meditation
- demonstration/one day workshop
Immediately understand the benefits of the meditation of making marks using
graceful Shodo techniques in this introductory program. Shodo centers around the
calligraphy of Japanese characters, the beauty in the movement of the brush with
the brush, body and mind acting as one. Learning the beginning techniques
teaches profound awareness into how one approaches art, fun and life in a
nutshell. Past students have reported how relaxing this process is and how
it has
given them the ability to loosen up and work from the inside out freely. This is
a great way to move out of a rut and grow into your own and into the moment
simply. Previous painting or calligraphy experience is NOT required.

Transfers: Paper, Cloth and Polymer Clay

Freehand transfers allow the
creation of images by hand to be transferred to polymer clay, paper, and cloth
without the use of special equipment. Drawing abilities are not required! Many
special effects can be achieved with this process very simply both on unbaked and baked clay. This class explores the many amazing effects available using
the Freehand Transfer method developed by Meredith, including layers of
transfers, watercolor effects, tie-dye, illustrative imagery and embossed
transfers. Exploring these unusual methods in a collaging process to
create personal adornment items will open up new horizons and inspirations for
